The Mount Kailash Overland Tour is a sacred pilgrimage and adventurous overland journey to the holy Mount Kailash and the divine Lake Manasarovar in western Tibet. Organized by Nepal New Generation Trek & Adventure Pvt. Ltd., this spiritual tour offers a life-changing experience combining breathtaking Himalayan landscapes with deep religious significance.

Spiritual Significance of Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash (6,638m) is one of the most revered mountains in the world. It is considered the abode of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, a sacred site in Buddhism associated with Demchok (Chakrasamvara), a holy place in Jainism where Rishabhadeva attained enlightenment, and the spiritual center of the ancient Bon religion. Unlike other Himalayan peaks, Mount Kailash remains unclimbed due to its immense religious importance.

Pilgrims believe that completing the sacred Kailash Kora (circumambulation) around the mountain washes away sins and brings spiritual purification. Even one kora is said to cleanse a lifetime of negative karma, while 108 koras lead to enlightenment.

Journey Through the Tibetan Plateau

The overland journey begins in Kathmandu with necessary Tibet travel permits and visa arrangements handled by our professional team. After driving to the Nepal–Tibet border at Kerung (Gyirong), the tour continues across the vast Tibetan Plateau, passing through dramatic landscapes, high mountain passes, turquoise lakes, and traditional Tibetan settlements.

The route offers spectacular views of the Himalayas, including distant glimpses of Mount Everest from the Tibetan side. Travelers gradually acclimatize as the road climbs toward Saga and Lake Manasarovar before reaching the holy region of Mount Kailash.

Holy Lake Manasarovar

Lake Manasarovar, located at an altitude of 4,590 meters, is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. Pilgrims take a holy bath and perform spiritual rituals along its shores. The serene blue waters, with Mount Kailash reflecting in the background, create an unforgettable spiritual atmosphere.

Kailash Kora (Parikrama)

The highlight of the tour is the 3-day Kailash Kora, a 52 km trek circling Mount Kailash. The trek crosses the high Dolma La Pass (5,630m), the most challenging yet spiritually rewarding section of the pilgrimage. Along the route, pilgrims visit sacred monasteries and prayer sites while witnessing stunning views of glaciers, valleys, and the majestic north face of Mount Kailash.

For those unable to walk the entire kora, yaks and porters are available to assist.
