Mera Peak Permit

Climbing Mera Peak (6,470m) requires several official permits issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). The main climbing permit cost varies by season, and trekkers must also obtain an entry permit for either Makalu Barun National Park or Sagarmatha National Park, along with the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entrance fee. All permits are arranged through a registered trekking agency like Nepal New Generation Trek & Adventure Pvt. Ltd., ensuring a safe and well-managed climbing experience.

Climbing Mera Peak (6,470m), the highest trekking peak in Nepal, requires several official permits issued by government authorities. These permits are essential for regulating mountaineering activities, ensuring climber safety, and protecting the fragile Himalayan environment. All permits must be arranged through a registered trekking agency such as Nepal New Generation Trek & Adventure Pvt. Ltd.

Mera Peak Climbing Permit (NMA)

The primary permit for climbing Mera Peak is issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). The cost of this permit varies depending on the climbing season:

  • Spring (March–May): USD 250 per person
  • Autumn (September–November): USD 125 per person
  • Winter/Summer (December–February & June–August): USD 70 per person

Spring and autumn are considered the best seasons due to stable weather, better visibility, and safer climbing conditions.

National Park Entry Permit

Depending on the trekking route, climbers must obtain an entry permit for one of the following protected areas:

  • Makalu Barun National Park Entry Permit: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 25)
    (Common route via Hinku Valley)

OR

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: NPR 3,000 (approx. USD 25)

These permits contribute to conservation efforts and maintenance of trekking trails.

Khumbu Local Government Permit

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Fee: NPR 2,000 (approx. USD 15)

This local permit supports community development and infrastructure in the Everest region.

Garbage Deposit

To promote eco-friendly climbing practices, a garbage deposit of around USD 500 per group is required. This amount is typically managed by your trekking agency and is refundable if all waste is properly collected and brought back from the mountain.

Required Documents

To obtain the permits, climbers must provide:

  • A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency helicopter evacuation (recommended coverage: USD 5,000–10,000)
  • Personal and itinerary details through a registered trekking agency

Important Information

  • Mandatory Guide: A licensed guide is required for Mera Peak climbing as per Nepal tourism regulations.
  • Permit Process: Individual climbers cannot obtain permits directly; all arrangements must be made through a government-registered trekking agency.
  • Best Time to Climb: Spring (March–May) offers stable conditions, while autumn (September–November) provides clear mountain views.
