The Dolpo region, one of Nepal’s most remote and untouched trekking destinations, is a restricted area that requires special permits for foreign trekkers. Known for its pristine landscapes, ancient Tibetan culture, and the stunning Shey Phoksundo National Park, Dolpo offers a unique and adventurous trekking experience. Due to its sensitive location and limited accessibility, the Government of Nepal has implemented specific permit regulations for both Upper and Lower Dolpo regions.
Trekking in Dolpo requires multiple permits depending on the trekking route:
1. Upper Dolpo Restricted Area Permit (RAP):
This permit is required for trekking in areas such as Shey Phoksundo, Dolpo Buddha, and Charka Tangsong Rural Municipality.
2. Lower Dolpo Restricted Area Permit (RAP):
Applicable for trekking in the southern parts of Dolpo.
3. Shey Phoksundo National Park Entry Permit:
All trekkers entering the Dolpo region must obtain this conservation permit.
Trekking in Upper Dolpo is strictly regulated to preserve its natural environment and cultural heritage. Solo trekking is not permitted in restricted areas. Trekkers must travel in a group of at least two people and be accompanied by a licensed trekking guide. All permits must be processed through a registered trekking agency such as Nepal New Generation Trek & Adventure Pvt. Ltd.
To obtain Dolpo trekking permits, trekkers must provide:
